🐕 JUNE’S DOG REPORT

Hiking with June

She doesn’t hike easy trails. She doesn’t complain. She does have opinions about rivers.

Who Is June?

June is a Dutch Shepherd. She’s been on trail since she was a puppy. Every trail review on this site includes her honest assessment — not just whether dogs are allowed, but whether the trail is actually good for dogs.

Water access. Shade. Paw safety on hot granite. Wildlife risk. Heat management. Leash rules that actually matter. That’s June’s report.

She’s hiked the San Gabriel Mountains, the Santa Monica Mountains, and the Eastern Sierra. She’s crossed snowfields, scrambled granite, and waded through every creek she could find. She is not a casual hiker.

June’s Rating System

🐾 Tail Wagger — Outstanding. June would hike this every weekend. Water access, shade, interesting terrain, manageable crowds.

✅ Good Girl — Solid trail for dogs. Minor issues but nothing that would stop a prepared dog owner.

⚠️ Manageable — Doable but requires planning. Heat exposure, limited water, or leash-only sections that make it harder.

🚫 Paws Off — Not recommended for dogs. Too hot, too exposed, too dangerous, or simply not worth it for your pup.

The Eastern Sierra with June

The Eastern Sierra is June’s home range. Highway 395 from Lone Pine to Bridgeport — the lakes, the granite, the altitude. She’s done them all. Parker Lake, Frog Lakes, the approach to Whitney Portal. This is where she does her best work.

The San Gabriels with June

Mt. Baden-Powell in the San Gabriel Mountains — 9,399 feet. June made it look easy. The San Gabriels are LA’s backyard and June’s training ground. Every weekend hike becomes a trail review.
